The district administrator
The district administrator (Landrat) is the main point of contact for all matters concerning the Potsdam-Mittelmark District. As the head of the district administration and its official representative, he is responsible for political decisions, administrative leadership and cooperation with citizens, municipalities and other partners.

Marko Köhler : District Administrator since 2022
Marko Köhler has been the District Administrator of the Potsdam-Mittelmark District since 1 April 2022. Prior to this, he served as Director of the Amt Brück. He was elected for an eight-year term as the successor to Wolfgang Blasig. As the head of the district administration and the district’s legal representative, he is responsible for implementing political decisions and driving the district’s strategic development. He also oversees the administration’s executive office.
Responsibilities of the District Administrator
- Management of the district administration with approx. 1,200 employees
- Implementation of the decisions made by the District Council and compliance with legal regulations
- External representation of the Potsdam-Mittelmark District
- Oversight of the district budget
- Cooperation with the municipalities within the district
- Direct responsibility for the administrative executive office
CV Marko Köhler
- Born in 1973 in Berlin-Friedrichshain
- Grew up in Königs Wusterhausen
- Vocational training in civil engineering with A-levels
- Studied public administration at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Bernau (Diploma)
- Police service from 1994 to 2016 in various positions:
- Head of accident prevention in the Dahme-Spreewald District
- Shift supervisor in Schönefeld, Teltow, Bad Belzig and Brandenburg an der Havel
- Seconded to the Ministry of the Interior to support police reform
- Deputy head of the police departments in Teltow-Fläming and Brandenburg an der Havel
- Elected Director of Amt Brück in 2017
- Chair of the Local Action Group Fläming-Havel since May 2019
- Married, four children, lives in Brück
Working with the district council
As a voting member of the district council, the district administrator works closely with the 56 elected council members. The district council makes key political decisions for the district, which he implements with a sense of responsibility and in the interest of the community.
