High-speed internet : Securing a digital future
:Comprehensive access to high-performance internet is a key factor for businesses, educational institutions and private households alike. In the Potsdam-Mittelmark District, broadband expansion is being actively promoted to ensure a future-proof digital infrastructure.
The German Federal Government supports broadband development particularly in regions where private-sector providers have not yet implemented their own networks. The district administration of the Potsdam-Mittelmark District coordinates this publicly funded rollout and works closely with Telekom Deutschland GmbH as its contractual partner.

Questions & answers : FAQ on broadband expansion
The publicly funded fibre-optic expansion is being carried out by Telekom Deutschland GmbH, acting as the contractual partner of the Potsdam-Mittelmark District. The project is financed by the federal government, the state of Brandenburg and the district.
The funded expansion applies to addresses where internet speeds are currently below 30 Mbit/s. You can check whether your address is included by using Telekom’s online tool:
Alternatively, the Federal Government’s Broadband Atlas provides an overview of current internet availability:
There may be several reasons:
- Your current or another telecommunications provider already offers speeds of 30 Mbit/s or more at your address.
- A provider has planned its own (unsubsidised) network expansion at your location.
- Your address is located within 550 metres of a main distribution point (a so-called "main distribution area").
- You are connected to a TV cable network that can be upgraded in the short term.
- Your address did not yet exist when the “white NGA spots” were analysed in 2016.
The district sent an information letter to all eligible addresses. This included an "order for the construction of a telecommunications network", which had to be returned in order to receive a free connection.
After 30 June 2022, free orders are no longer possible. However, you can still request a connection for a fee of EUR 799.95.
Please contact Telekom’s building site service (Bauherrenservice) for further information: Bauherrenservice der Telekom.
The funded rollout is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. Implementation takes place in phases, depending on technical, topographical and logistical planning. Each area will be put into operation step by step once construction is complete.
