Responsibilities and significance of the district council
The district council of Potsdam-Mittelmark is the highest political body of the district. It is elected every five years as part of the local elections and consists of 56 councillors, plus the district administrator as a voting member. This is where important decisions affecting the entire district are made.
Key responsibilities of the district council:

– Monitoring the implementation of these decisions by the administration

Legal foundations
The work of the district council is based on the Local Government Constitution of the Federal State of Brandenburg. The highest supervisory authority for local government is the Ministry of the Interior and for Local Affairs of Brandenburg.
Certain decisions – such as changes to administrative boundaries or the renaming of the district – must be approved by the ministry.
The executive committee of the district council
The executive committee consists of the chair and her deputies. The current members were elected on 4 July 2024 for the seventh electoral term:
