Public libraries in Potsdam-Mittelmark offer a wide range of services for education, leisure and personal development – from traditional books and digital media to events for all age groups.

Browse, read, learn

Libraries across the district offer a diverse media collection for all generations – from gripping novels and informative non-fiction to entertaining children’s books and digital content. Events for young and old are also part of the programme.

Many libraries host reading hours, author talks or introductory sessions for daycare groups and school classes. On site or online – discover what your local library has to offer.

Library network PM : Access your media anywhere

In Potsdam-Mittelmark, you’ll find a strong network of public libraries – both locally and online. Want to borrow books, access digital media or join an event? The city and municipal libraries offer a wide range of services for all age groups.

Through the Library Network PM, you have access to the district-wide media collection. With the regional lending system, you can easily request items from other libraries and pick them up at your local branch. To help smaller libraries expand their collections, the District Library at the Media Centre PM also provides additional materials.

Library Services

Libraries are more than just places to read – they’re places to meet, learn and discover. Many libraries offer story times, introductory sessions for nurseries and schools, as well as special events such as author readings and workshops. Programmes vary depending on the location – simply contact your local library to find out what’s currently on offer.

Registration & usage : FAQ - it's that simple

You can apply for your library card directly at your local library. Simply bring a valid ID card or passport, and you’ll gain access to the full range of library services – including the Onleihe digital lending platform.

Please note: some libraries charge a small fee, and your card is usually only valid at the library where it was issued.

Loan periods vary depending on the library and the type of media. As a rule, books can be borrowed for up to four weeks; digital media usually have a borrowing period of one to two weeks, depending on the licence.

For specific information on loan periods, renewals or special conditions, please ask your local library.

Typical loan periods via Onleihe: E-books: 21 days, E-audios: 14 days, E-magazines: 1 day.

All public libraries in the district – both professionally and voluntarily run – are part of the Library Network Potsdam-Mittelmark.

The following professionally managed libraries are part of the network:

    Bad Belzig Library
    Beelitz City Library
    Bibliothek Brück
    Library Kleinmachnow
Library "Bettina von Arnim" Kloster Lehnin
    Gemeindebibliothek Bergholz-Rehbrücke (Nuthetal)
    Bibliothek Stahnsdorf
    Stadtbibliothek Teltow
    Stadtbibliothek Treuenbrietzen
    Stadtbibliothek Werder (Havel)
    Library "Am Männekentor" Wiesenburg
    Amtsbibliothek Ziesar

Volunteer-run and part-time libraries are also included and benefit from the shared resources.

The District Library at the Potsdam-Mittelmark Media Centre coordinates the network, organises media transport and provides additional materials – but it is not a public lending library.

Many services are free of charge.
However, some libraries charge an annual membership fee. Additional fees may apply for special services such as interlibrary loans.

Please check directly with your local library for details.

In addition to the libraries in the network, you can also order media from the Fouqué Library Brandenburg an der Havel.

How it works:

  1. Research: Search in the Verbund-OPAC or directly in the catalogs of Teltow, Kleinmachnow or Brandenburg a. d.Havel according to the desired medium.
  2. Order: Contact your library, which will request the medium for you.
  3. Loan: You can collect the item from your library on arrival
  4. Return: The item is also returned on site.

Notes:

  • The lending library decides on the release. Current titles are often only available locally
  • Charges may apply - please check with your library in advance.

Direct borrowing is only possible at the library where you are registered. However, you can order items from other libraries via the regional lending service.

For general enquiries, your local library is your first point of contact. For technical issues related to digital services such as Onleihe, please contact the relevant platform or ask your library for support.
